Fred Lofts

It's a debate we've all had - who's he best pool player you've seen? Have that debate with anyone who has played pool in the Thames Valley area in the last 20 years and sooner or later (mostly sooner) you get to Peter Lofts. We're sorry to report that last week Peter's father Fred (‘Pops’) passed away.

Fred seemed to attend every match that Peter played in on a Thursday night, despite the fact that none of us at Rackspack can actually remember seeing him play a frame! He seemed to take a great deal of enjoyment and pride in turning up, socialising and watching his son Peter play. He became part of the fixtures and fittings; when Peter was playing, Fred was shadowing his every shot. He was a very likeable character and all of us at Rackspack extend our sympathies and condolences to Peter and his family.

Hi Guys,

on behalf of my mum and the rest of my family, I'd like to thanks you for your kind words, sympathy and support during this sad time for us. I'd also like to thanks you for your kind and generous donation to Pops' chosen charity, Cancer Research UK. Some of you will know that he had fought a long battle with cancer. He defied the experts and lived longer than they expected, but in the end it got him.

Pops did indeed play in the Slough (TVPA) league many years ago, but as you mentioned he got just as much enjoyment from watching me and the rest of the team play. He was our chief supporter but also our biggest critic, giving us all a good telling off if he thought we had gone the wrong way, played a stupid shot or weren't concentrating. It goes without saying that I will miss him being at our games, but I'm sure the rest of the players will too. He had become part of the fixtures and fittings.

I could go on for pages about the pool experiences that Pops and I have shared over the past 30+ years, but I won't bore you.

Thanks again for your support, it is much appreciated by me and all of the family.

Cheers

Pete
